1. Major Problem:
At around 5:00am in the morning, it was noticed that the images taken were
all bad - the objects are all triangel in shape. After examining the image
sequence, it was found that the problem occured at around 04:45am. This must
be a problem with the optical system, because short exposures (for standard
stars) taken at different airmasses, different hour angles and in different
filters all showed this problem. While the observer was calling the support
astronomer, the telescope operator (MH) soon realized that the mirror lost its
pressure support. However, there was no warning at his computer console. The
observer support staff (JR) was also called to solve the problem. The mirror
soon regained the pressure and the observation resumed at around 05:30. The
first exposue was not good, but the next one went back to normal. In total,
we lost about 50 min to this problem.
2. Secondary Problems:
1) At around mid-night, the alarm went off warning that the DECam humidity
was higher than the 5% threshold. It quickly climbed up to > 7%. The observer
support staff was called. Under his advice, the telescope operator increased
the dry air flow (10%) to the camera. The humidity slowly dropped to below 5%
after ~ 20min. At around 01:20am, the alarm went off again because of the same
problem. None furher was done. After about 10 min, the humidity dropped on its
own.
2) A number of GUI's had some problem at around mid-night. The Observer
Console froze for a moment. Pressing F5 didn't refresh it, and a small pop-up
window suggested to kill the pages. After killing the pages, pressing F5
brought the Observer Console back. However, the blue bar identifying the
expoure progress went completely wrong: the reading decreased and then
increased, back-and-forth until after the exposure was done. After the new
exposure in the queue moved up and started, the blue bar went back to normal.
3) The telemetry seems to have frozen for at least once. This was noticed
at around 01:30am when the second alarm about the DECam humidity went off.
3. Minor Problems:
1) The internet speed was extremely slow from 11:00pm - 02:00am
2) The bluetooth keyboard and mouse at observer1> were not responding.
Hardwired keyboard and mouse solved the problem.
3) The RASICAM window (at both observer1 and observer2) frooze up multiple
times during the night.
4. An awkward problem:
The lights in the garage were not turned off. This was not noticed until
at around 11:10pm when the observe went out to check on the sky.
