Date:

Telescope:
CTIO Blanco 4-m
Submitter:
David James
Submitter Email:
Observer Support:
Hernan Tirado
Night Assistant:
Claudio Aguilera
Also Present:
Marisa March, Kevin Reil
Problems:

None.

  1. Shutter box error – occurred four times – resolved by ICS shutter restart and/or reconfigure shutter role in sispi.
  2. ics1.ctio.noao.edu:8080 GUI problem – lost ICS (lower right) screen only. Unable to recover.
  3. Guider frequnetly lost guide stars due to cloud.
  4. Full moon illuminating clouds (we believe) caused saturation of SN X3-z band. Sequence aborted. Tried shorter test exposures of 45s – still had saturation problems. Had to stop observing for ~2 hours.

Observing Team

DES Observers: Kevin Reil, Marisa March, David James
Telops: Claudio Aguilera, Hernando Tirado
Remote Support: –

Observing Plan

  1. Afternoon calibrations
  2. Tonight’s DES observations are preceded by DD Time: Prop-ID 2013B-0531: Satellites of Neptune.
  3. Evening standard stars
  4. ObsTac
  5. Morning standard stars
  6. Morning calibrations

Conditions

  1. Skies became cloudy ~40% by RASICAM at around 2300 CLST.
  2. Completely clouded out between 0035-0218 CLST.
  3. Seeing from the DIMM about 0.5-1.4 arc sec.

Accomplishments

  1. Afternoon calibrations (good)
  2. Director’s Discretionary Time: Prop ID 2013B-0531: Observations of Neptune’s satellites. (Non-DES)
  3. DES observing began at 2231 CLST
  4. Evening standards:

    1. SDSSJ2140-0000
    2. SDSSJ0100-0000
  5. ObsTac.

    1. ObsTac observing began at 2249 CLST
    2. SN C1 shallow field (griz) taken on SN deadman trigger.
    3. SN X3 z-band (Not deadman: SN Tactician) [FAILED due to saturation: Clouds & full moon]
    4. Wide survey primarily Y-band with occasional z-band. (moon up all night).
  6. Morning standards:

    1. SDSSJ1048-0000
    2. SDSSJ0958-0010
    3. SDSSJ0843-0000
  7. Morning calibrations (zeros only)
