Problems:
Although the night started with some problems, we had a very good night for COSMOS comissioning. At the beginning of the night, it was noted that guider would not initialize properly. The guide probe would move in the z-direction, but would not in x and y. M. Martinez was contacted in Vina del Mar and he was able to determine that there were some problems with the guide probe limits. Manuel resolved this problem and can be contacted should readers of this report desire more information. One very important consequence of Manuel fixing this problem is that we were able to guide on targets for extended periods without problems.

A very good night for COSMOS commissioning after the guider problem was fixed. We were able to take spectra of Hamuy spectrophotometric standards for use in COSMOS efficiency calculations for the 6 spectral setups. Spectra of other spectrophotometric stars were also obtained. These stars spanned a range of magnitudes and were observed with different exposure times to better understand the S/N that observers can expect under typical observing conditions. One benefit of these tests is that we were able to keep a star centered on the slit (3px wide) for longer than 30min without having to reaquire the target. We also observed the Stone I astrometric calibration field. We were not able to use the Stone I slit mask that was cut on the laser machine in LS because we could not get the alignment software working on the cosmos-4m computer. We will work on this tomorrow with P. Martini. We also took images and spectra of the NGC 6302 (i.e., PR images and spectra).
One other notable goal acheived tonight is that we were able to get the NGUI TELFOCUS script to work. After reporting the problem yesterday, P. Daly contacted us to suggest that we put delays in the script to allow M@ sufficient time to move between focus values. After doing this, we were able to use the script without problems.
Thanks to everybody for making this a productive and succesful night.
