ENR SOAR 4-m 2019-06-18

Date:

Telescope:
SOAR 4-m

Observer Support:

Night Assistant:
Sergio Pizarro
Also Present:
Jay Elias, Marco Bonati, Sean Points and Cesar BriceƱo (from USA)
Problems:
  • At the beginning of the night we had problem setting the field offset between SAMI images and Gmap.
  • Then we tried to guide without the field offset, but when we closed the tip-tilt loop with M3, the M3 values increased until saturation. Then Cesar told us that we were seeing a false star (the flux was around 30 Ke/s for a star of magnitude 14, maybe it would be useful a table for reference values for the expected fluxes for the non-astronomers).
  • Then we continue trying to set the field offset correctly. Values obtained where larger than usual (47 mm in Y). After several attempts (including changing the target) we obtained the smallest value (5mm in X and 13 in Y approx.). Then we tried again to guide, but again the guide probe didn’t find the star (we moved manually and with the button acquire guide star).
  • After that we decide just to propagate the laser and see it on the Aqc. Camera. We didn’t see it. The photodiodes values looked ok. We moved LLT M1 and the LLT M2 (focus), but we couldn’t see it.
