ENR CTIO Blanco 4-m 2016-09-13

Date:

Telescope:
CTIO Blanco 4-m
Submitter:

Submitter Email:

Observer Support:
Alberto Alvarez
Night Assistant:
Hernan Tirado
Problems:

# For the second night in a row we noticed that the performance of observer 1's console became very sluggish around 4:00 (local time). The poor performance (windows slow to respond to mouse clicks etc) is correlated with very high load averages (around 16 or 17) on the local machine. Running top did not reveal any obvious process that was using all the machine cycles. The problem may be related to a data transfer that is scheduled at this time. The problem clears up by about 5:00 (8:00 UT) and the load averages fall back to around 1

#The DIMM1 FWHM data were missing again about the same time as last night. Because the DIMM1 dropped out at roughly the same time the past two nights, we wonder if the problem could be not having suitable stars in the star-table

Comments:

*Observing Plan*
# Full night DES observing
# 3 standards including: SDSSJ2140-0000, LDS749B_CCD_52, E8-A
# Obstac
# 3 morning standards including: SDSSJ0100-0000, WD0308_565_CCD_35, SDSSJ0320-0000

*Conditions*
# Clouds: light cloud cover up most of the sky early in the night;
# Bright moon: 90%
# Seeing: (Q1) 1.1", (Q2) 1.4", (Q3) 2.0", (Q4) 1.4"
# At beginning: high clouds covered most of the sky. ~12 deg C. Winds ~10 mph. Humidity ~20%
# At midpoint: clear sky. ~10 deg C. Winds ~11 mph. Humidity ~20%
# At end: clear sky. 10 deg C. Winds 15 mph. Humidity 20%
