ENR CTIO Blanco 4-m 2018-09-12

Date:
Wednesday, September 12, 2018
Telescope:
CTIO Blanco 4-m
Submitter:
Florian Beutler
Submitter Email:
florian.beutler@port.ac.uk
Observer Support:
Hernan Tirado
Night Assistant:
Alberto Alvarez
Also Present:
Kathy Vivas, Stephen Kent, Taylor Hutchison, Travis Prochaska, Dragan Huterer
Problems:

Wireless internet (both noaosouth and publicwifi) seems to hang, requiring reconnecting, particularly in the dorm rooms.

DTS seems stalled (dts-ct).

Comments:

DECal scan in g completed. Images 772684-772860

DES: Most data are bad. Established records for thickest cloud that could be measured by kentools.

CCD N10 still working at end of night.

Observing Team

DES Observers: S. Kent, T. Hutchison, T. Prochaska, D. Huterer
Telops: A. Alvarez, H. Tirado
Remote Support: —-

Observing Plan

  1. handover from community observers
  2. run ObsTac queue, wait for weather to clear.
  3. end of night standard stars & calibrations

Conditions

  1. weather in afternoon: Cloudy
  2. weather during night: Cloudy
  3. weather summary: Cloudy
  4. Seeing conditions: Median: 1.3 RMS: 0.3
  5. Wind conditions: Low
  6. Humidity: 50%

Accomplishments

  1. Ran ObsTac all shift, although only a few exposures were good. Clouds failed to depart at 6 am as forecast.
  2. Established record for thickest clouds measured by kentools (5.78 mag)
  3. Wildlife report: 1 lizard, 2 KRs

Problems tagged as Synopsis_Problem

DTS stalled, apparently in middle of transferring DECal scan from 1st half.

Minor Problems and Relevant Information

  1. In the afternoon, N10 was brought back to like by cycling the S3 line. Unclear why this procedure worked. It continued to work all night.

Notes for Data Management

  1. A few exposures early on and at end might be good; the rest are bad.
