Submitter Email:
jnantais@astro-udec.cl
Observer Support:

Night Assistant:
Claudio Aguilera
Also Present:
Roger Leiton, Rodrigo Hernandez
Problems:

None.

Comments:

Brief seeing spike to 2 arcsec around 10:30.

DES Observing Team

Observers: Stephen Kent, Richard Kron
Telops: Hernan Tirado, Claudio Auguilera, Rodrigo Hernandez
Remote Support:

Observing Plan

  1. 2nd half-night observing plan
  2. Handoff from 1st half observers at 04:52
  3. use 1st half standard bias and dome flat sequence
  4. two mid-point standard stars
  5. run ObsTac queue
  6. three morning standard stars
  7. morning bias

Conditions

  1. Photometric all night
  2. Seeing started out wandering like a minstrel but later became steady around 1-1.1 arcsec
  3. 8:50 UT seeing spiked. Switch from wide survey to supernova

Accomplishments

  1. afternoon bias and flats; flats look good
  2. Handoff 12 minutes early (at 04:34) – compensates late start last night
  3. midpoint standards

    • SDSSJ0100
    • SDSSJ2140
  4. Supernovae
  5. Wide survey g,r,i exposures
  6. Supernovae

    • E2
    • C1
    • X2
  7. morning standards

    • SDSSJ0320
    • SDSSJ0100
    • SDSSJ0000

Problems

None

Notes for data management

  1. Afternoon flats and biases 350656-350764 are from prop-id 2014B-0608

Other

  1. DIMM is defunct.
  2. The low dome temperature went below the mirror temp, but this time the seeing stayed constant. Go figure.
  3. Brief appearance of clouds (not the Magellanic type) in the NE, but they soon vanished.

We noticed what appears to be a fair amount of global astigmatism in the images, likely due to
the primary mirror, with an amplitude that is strongly correlated with zenith angle at the
telescope moves from zenith to South along the meridian. (This is much bigger than differential
refraction and is wavelength-independent.) Figure in e-log.
