Observing Team

DES Observers: Steve Kent, Alex Drlica-Wagner
Telops: Humberto Orrego, Hernan Tirado
Remote Support: Klaus Honscheid

Observing Plan

Half-night plan

  1. standard bias and dome flat sequence
  2. PTC sequence
  3. evening standard stars
  4. Try to get SN-X3z to load in obstac
  5. Nightly defocus
  6. run ObsTac queue
  7. middle of the night standard star
  8. handover to community observers

Conditions

  1. weather after dinner: 7pm (local): Clear slight haze.
  2. weather during night: 22:00 pm (local): Clear
  3. weather during night: 12am (local): Clear
  4. Seeing conditions: >1 arcsec start, decreasing to 0.75 arcsec by moonset, increasing again as we moved to g and r.
  5. Wind conditions: 5 mph
  6. Humidity: 50

Accomplishments

  1. Afternoon PTC. 282248-282410 (Exposure 282370 dropped due to shutter error).
  2. Afternoon: zeros dome flats (ugriz) (starting at 282413)
  3. Evening: Standards:

    • E4-A
    • SDSSJ0200
  4. SN exposures – Attempt to get obtac to select SN-X3z failed. We started obstac early, but it started with E2, and after that selected C3, perhaps because there was not enough time at the point to select X3. (Note that we could not get obstac to select objects before -12 degree twilight.) It is clear that the placement of most of the SN fields into close proximity creates unexpected interactions in determining priority of observation.

    • SN-E2
    • SN-C3z
  5. Survey Exposures: 96 total
  6. Middle of night:

    • Standard SDSSJ0933
    • Standard SDSSJ1227

Problems tagged as Synopsis_Problem

*Minor Problems and Relevant Information*qq

  1. Hernan’s laptop fan made loud noises last night, requiring a shutdown; disassembly and cleaning today have apparently resolved the problem.
  2. Occlusion alarms: 11
  3. Shutter errors: 1

Notes for Data Management

  1. Ignore exposures 282248-282410 (PTC data)
