The cause of the 4map main application not starting was the absence of the DDS service daemon. Most probably when the machine was rebooted the DDS service daemom died unexpectedly leaving a lock file behind. When 4map start up script is executed, it checks if the DDS service daemon is running and if it is not it starts it up. The presence of a wild lock file produce the script to believe the DDS service is running but the 4map then fails inmediately when trying to connect to the daemon and dies. By manually forcing the stop od the DDS service and thus erasing the wild lock file, and then restarting the service the DDS was left in a working condition. After that the start up script connected without problems to the daemon. The start up script was modified to stop and start the daemon without asking if necessary from now on. It is less than optimal but it will work until a more elavorated solution is put in place. Rolo C.
