


This week AURA is hosting the First "LA SERENA SCHOOL FOR DATA SCIENCE: Applied Tools for Astronomy". This winter school is an intensive week of interdisciplinary lectures for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students, focused on applied tools for handling big astronomical data and databases (like those from DECam, DES, and soon LSST). For this year's school, we could accept about 35 students (defined by the room in the AURA lecture hall) and received over 130 applications! The project considers versions in the following two years.
