Observer Support:

Night Assistant:
Alberto Alvarez
Also Present:
A Myers, R Kron, B Nord, D James, S Kent
Problems:

DIMM did not open.  Observer Support called Edison Bustos to try to restart. Power cycle of DIMM did not help. Still in a bad state.

That's all!

Comments:

Clear and Calm. Poor seeing to start night. Seeing improved after switch to second-half program.

Observing Team

DES Observers: David James, Stephen Kent, Richard Kron
Telops: Manuel Hernandez, Alberto Alvarez
Remote Support: K. Honscheid, E. Neilson remote surveillance

Observing Plan

  1. 2nd half-night observing plan
  2. use 1st half standard bias and dome flat sequence
  3. Hand-off at 04:47 UT
  4. two mid-point standard stars
  5. run ObsTac queue
  6. three morning standard stars
  7. morning bias

Conditions

  1. Clear all night
  2. Good seeing.
  3. Another productive half-night

Accomplishments

  1. afternoon bias and flats; flats look good
  2. Transition from 1st half observers at 04:47 UT
  3. midpoint standards

    • SDSSJ0100
    • SDSSJ2140
  4. Wide survey g,r,i,z,Y exposures
  5. morning standards

    • SDSSJ0000
    • SDSSJ0100
    • SDSSJ0320

Problems

  1. Near the end of the night, obstac put a supernova field on the queue, even though we could never complete it (C1). We deleted the exposures, and obstac then added regular wide survey exposures.

Notes for data management

  1. Afternoon flats and biases 348543-348642 are from prop-id 2014B-0404

Other

  1. DIMM not working tonight
  2. grizY and Yzrig standard star scripts were missing from sispi/decam/ExposureScripts/DES/standards – we added back from dtucker directory. Was the removal intentional?
  3. Mirror and dome temps rising during the night – was the dome overcooled during the daytime?
