Submitter:
Stephen Kent (1st half) Claudia Belardi (2nd half)
Submitter Email:
Observer Support:
Humberto Orrego
Night Assistant:
Hernan Tirado
Also Present:
Alex Drlica-Wagner
Problems:

Spike in FCM humidity around 04:00 UT.  Up to 6% triggered - several alarms.  Outside humidity was 44%, wind 7 mph.  We did not raise the windscreen.  The humidity dropped down on its own.

second half: none

Observing Team

DES Observers: Steve Kent, Alex Drlica-Wagner
Telops: Humberto Orrego, Hernan Tirado
Remote Support: Klaus (testing pscjob)

Observing Plan

Half-night plan

  1. standard bias and dome flat sequence
  2. evening standard stars
  3. Nightly defocus
  4. run ObsTac queue
  5. middle of the night standard star
  6. handover to community observers
  7. Head down mountain in morning

Conditions

  1. weather after dinner: 7pm (local): Clear
  2. weather during night: 22:00 pm (local): Clear
  3. weather during night: 12am (local): Clear
  4. Seeing conditions: 1.7 arcsec at start. Settling down to 1 arcsec, then the expected 0.7-0.8 arcsec after 2:30 UT
  5. Wind conditions: 5 mph
  6. Humidity: 50

Accomplishments

  1. Afternoon: zeros, dome flats (ugriz)
  2. Early evening test of pscjob
  3. Evening: Standards:

    • SDSSJ0843 (focus not good initially)
    • SDSSJ0200
    • C26202/HST
  4. Nightly defocus
  5. SN exposures

    • SN-X1
    • SN-C2 (Picked due to seeing trigger)
  6. Survey Exposures: 122 in total
  7. Middle of night:

    • Standard SDSSJ1227

Problems tagged as Synopsis_Problem

Several humidity alarms (FCM humidity > 5%) even though wind is low, outside humidity is low. FCM humidity dropped on its own.

Minor Problems and Relevant Information

  1. Occlusion alarms: 3
  2. Shutter errors: 0
  3. Multiple instances of the following alarms from IB:

    • Check for completion thread exiting
    • Image builder thread exiting

Apparently this was Klaus restarting the image builders to get pscjob to work (which it did – yes!). Operations were unaffected.

Notes for Data Management

  1. Ignore exposure 283703 (afternoon test)
  2. Ignore exposures 283722-283723 (nightly defocus)
