Problems: 

Several problems with Chiron last night, we are not sure if they are related.

 

Slicer motor problems:

 

- At 06:50 UT Chiron sent error messages when I switched the observation mode from Fiber to Slicer_iout. Slicer stayed in error state even after restarting, ctioe1 and torrent controller. Seemed to came back to life a couple of times, but shortly after switching mode it went down again.

Temperature control problems:

- At the same time of slicer motor errors and before restarting chiron, temperature alarms were sent via email. We checked the temperature systems, every time before and after restarting the controller. Everything was normal except for the Iodine cell setpoint temperature, was in 0º instead of ~40º. Please check the temperature control of Chiron.

 

AC in the computer room (fixed):

 

- The ventilation in the computer room was on error state, we noted high temperature inside of this room. We cycled the power of the AC there and the temperature dropped slowly back to the nominal 18ºC. We are not sure since when was on error state.

 

Due to problems mentioned above, the following targets were not observed:

 

HIP054810, HIP054677, HIP059000, HD 109962, N Cir 2018, HD 131977 and HIP063366.

Comments: 

Due to view obstruction when looking towards the SE by the dome of the 4.0-meter telescope, targets 16N61A and 16N61B were not observed for the times given for the PI. Please check restrictions in the link:http://www.ctio.noao.edu/noao/content/SMARTS-15-m-Telescope
