Connecting to CTIO Cerro Tololo, Pachón, and La Serena Wireless Networks
There are two general access wireless networks at CTIO:
- SSID "public_linksys" : A public wireless connection in the La Serena Main Conference Room (MCR). This WiFi connection does *not* require a WPA2 password, nor does it require MAC address registration. It is comparable to what would be available at an open access cyber cafe for accessing the general Internet, but is *not* allowed to access the internal CTIO network (such as this page). Since it is effectively outside the CTIO firewall, there is not much protection provided from the outside so should be used with the same caution one would exercise at a cyber cafe. In principle, the footprint wifi signal for this network remains pretty much around the CTIO MCR and hence within the CTIO campus, but one should not take this for granted.
- SSID "n0a0s_south" : A private wireless network which is inside the internal CTIO network has the same general level of access as the wired connection in CTIO offices. It *DOES* require a WPA2 password, and it also requires MAC address registration. This network is behind the CTIO firewall and is considered much more protected than the public wireless. Similarly to the public wifi, the footprint wifi signal for this network spans several access points, but still remains pretty much within the CTIO campus.
The WPA2 password right now for wifi network "n0a0s_south" : [W1f1N0@0s] (without square brackets).
