Survey Operations at ESO: VISTA and VST Public Surveys

I will review the history of surveys at ESO and present in detail the on-going public surveys, particularly the imaging surveys of the Milky Way and the Magellanic Clouds that are being carried out right now with the VISTA and VST survey telescopes.
