Highlights of Science, Instrumentation, and Operations at CTIO: 1969 - 1986

I will review some highlights of scientific accomplishments, instrumentation developments, and operational achievements at CTIO during the 1969 - 1986 interval. I will add comments on the outstanding and distinctive characteristics of CTIO at that time and how it became a model of a successful national and inter-American observatory. I will close with remarks about the lessons CTIO history has for current and future directions in astronomy and astrophysics.
